Carl Lutz – The Forgotten Hero

Carl Lutz, a Swiss diplomat, saved the lives of at least 50,000 Hungarian Jews during World War II. He was a lifesaver, and the greatest lifesaver in Hungary. How is this not in the public consciousness? When Carl Lutz returned to his homeland after the war, the Swiss authorities demoted him for exceeding his authority: saving lives was not part of his job. He was never rehabilitated until his death in 1975. In 2014, a documentary was made about him in Switzerland. How is it possible that no one distributed this film in Hungary? Now, a good 10 years later, the film about Carl Lutz’s life can finally be seen at the Spinoza Theater.
