“After the German occupation, we were both arrested by the Gestapo. Every morning, they took me up to Svábhegy, where they interrogated me in a strange way. They asked no questions, they simply beat me. They tore out my hair and knocked out my teeth. They expected me to start talking on my own. But I had nothing to tell them. After my release, I was placed under police surveillance. Following the Arrow Cross takeover, I became one of the most wanted people in the country. Then, in December 1944, I was arrested again… but I managed to escape.”
