Stories from Jewish Forced Labor Service

"Preserve everything, collect the films, collect the witnesses, because the day will come when some bastard will stand up and say that none of this ever happened."
/ David Eisenhower, 1945 /

This documentary film series explores a uniquely Hungarian phenomenon between 1939 and 1945: the Jewish forced labor service (munkaszolgálat). Former forced laborers share their personal stories and memories. The film examines what fascism, populism, and politics based on inciting hatred can do — how they destroy not only the healthy fabric of society but also the lives of individuals.

The 6th episode of the documentary series was created for the Spinoza Jewish Festival 2026 (October 2026). The main subject of the 6th episode is József Soós Singer.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker, Gábor Dénes.
